Intraoral, panoramic, cephalometric, and dental CBCT systems have different geometries, beam directions, workloads, and operator arrangements. A dental shielding design should start with the exact system and actual clinic layout.

Identify each imaging system

  • Intraoral units and wall-arm locations.

  • Panoramic and cephalometric systems.

  • Dental CBCT model and scan volume.

  • Handheld or mobile equipment, if applicable.

  • Expected exposures, procedures, and operating schedule.

Map the clinic workflow

Show patient position, beam direction, operator location, control or exposure switch, doors, corridors, waiting areas, neighboring operatories, and spaces above and below. Multi-chair practices should identify simultaneous or overlapping use.

Do not combine unlike systems

A panoramic unit, cephalometric attachment, intraoral tube, and CBCT scanner should not be treated as one generic dental machine. Provide the exact manufacturer documents and expected use for each device.

Coordinate construction and registration

  • Confirm wall, floor, ceiling, door, and window construction.

  • Review penetrations and equipment-location changes.

  • Verify required state review, registration, survey, or inspection steps.

  • Keep the final shielding documentation with the facility records.
